at Plum & Co. Interiors! Here you can enjoy a quick seasonal update on my latest projects and adventures. As I share my insights on current trends, and offer seasonal tips that you can incorporate into your own home. So grab a cup of coffee, take a seat, and let's catch up…

WHAT I’VE BEEN UP TO…

It has been a busy spring term, will lots of projects coming to life! At the beginning of 2023 I took on two new Full Designs Projects, both Master Bedrooms, one an entirely new loft space.

The Loft Bedroom is now coming into land. The plastering is done and second fix is underway and I can’t wait to share the results with you soon.

The other Master Bed is due for install shortly. The Design is looking fantastic and we are finalising the details on this now.

May, saw the completion of project I joined last Autumn. My remit was to help the family choose wall and bathroom tile finishes, and to assist them in styling their collection of art and artifacts, which they had accumulated over the decades from around the world. Such a fun project with great clients. It was an honour to be part of the journey

At home, I have also been in the grips of a design and install project. Undertaking a Ground Floor redecoration. It’s been lots fun trying to work out how I can incorporate sustainable values by re-using pieces, up-cycling existing kitchen cupboards and scouring vintage places for new pieces and decor items.

Needless the family and I were in need of some much needed ‘R&R’ by the end of term. So thankful for a spring retreat to the Dorset Coast, soaking up the sun, sea and kayaks.

Clerkenwell Design Week 2023

TREND SPOTTING AT LONDON’S DESIGN WEEKS

London's Design Weeks are renowned for showcasing the latest trends and innovations in the world of Interior Design. Whilst I don’t think we should be beholden to trends, I do enjoy spotting patterns.

This Spring , I was able to gather with host of other designers , architects and enthusiast to explore the delights both Chelsea Design week & Clerkenwell had to offer. Here some trends that caught my eye:

1.Sustainable Materials & Design:

I am so excited this market is growing as Designers and suppliers explore innovative ways to prioritize sustainability in their creations. I spotted this Jennifer Manners rug at Design Week in March. Part of her /re/PURPOSE PERFORMANCE collection, absolutely stunning and crafted entirely from recycled plastic water bottles.

2. The Details: Curves Fluting and Bobbles

We continue to embrace the curves, fluting, and softer elements, all challenging those conventional straight lines. Some say this trend came from our need for comfort during the pandemic, but it seems to be here to stay and is evolving. Have a look around and you will start to spot it everywhere. Left is a kitchen from Expresso Kitchens, featuring a curved island and fluted panel doors.

I love the playfulness of this trend, especially seen in bobbled and mushroom lamps.

These decorative wire less table lamps are from Lladro. So fun with colourful bobbles and pleated shades.

3. Retro Vibes

Channeling the 70’s retro vibes, this Spring’s Design Week came with a burst of nostalgia. Mid Century style is still big. Bold and vibrant colours, large geometric pattern prints, and patterned carpeted floors all kept popping up. This season showcased an abundance of fun and playful pieces. If you want to utilised your old disco ball and splash out on bold coloured furniture then the market won’t disappoint. Image above take in VitrA’s flagship store Showroom EC1

4. Patterns and hints of Biophilia

Another divergence from grey minimalism was seen a both events in the use of pattern. Biophilia has seen a lot of growth recently and it is exploding all over fabrics (like the one right from Sanderson's), wallpapers, tiles and lampshades.

These patterns exude a timeless elegance and embrace the charm of cottage core/country revival aesthetic. Whether you opt for a statement fabric to accentuate a neutral room or indulge in a maximalist approach by layering patterns and colors, the possibilities are endless. I personally love this trend, as it breathes life spaces with its fusion of patterns and the natural world.

5.Hotel Lux

For those who appreciate a more modern minimalist aesthetic, fear not - minimalism is still thriving. Both weeks showcased examples of modern minimal designs incorporating a splash of LUX.

Think marble surfaces, mixed metals, soft and inviting linens and the ever popular boucle. These designs play with contrasts, featuring a combination of sleek black lines alongside elegant curves and the all important oversized statement lighting fixtures!

Drawing inspiration from their European influences, here is an example from Laskasas Studio, Portugal.
